Beauty Lessons Learned at London Fashion Week Fall 2016.

Though it feels like it’s only just begun, London Fashion Week’s final designers took their bows this morning. Before the international flock of models and editors jets off to Milan for another round of shows, we decided to stop and take stock of the best beauty proposals from the British runways. As always, a more eccentric spirit worked its way through London—think candy-colored Afros and plastic-wrapped heads—and the boldly experimental hair and makeup yielded transfixing results. From fuzzy flyaways to glitter-coated lids, here are seven ideas to take with you from the Fall 2016 shows.

Try Every Variation of the Red Lip
From the bright rouge lips at Roksanda (shown) to the just-bitten stain at Erdem, which appeared artfully smudged around the mouth, the red lip came in every form this week, though the darker tones continued to dominate the runways here.

Consider Hair Adornments
The antique brooches and gilded pins that dotted the textured chignons at Alexander McQueen, coupled with the delicate jeweled barrettes pinned into models’ hair at Erdem (shown), illustrated the sheer romance of blinging out your bun.

Get Creative With Your Liner
The pretty pops of color at Anya Hindmarch (shown), in tangerine, sky blue, and other vibrant shades, were a charming way to draw attention to the face. Elsewhere, a double-winged flick at Topshop Unique andJulien Macdonald’s graphic black liner helped make the case for unconventional eye makeup.

Up the Shine Factor
A shimmering lid provided an easy yet impactful statement at Burberry, where backstage makeup artist Wendy Rowe applied holographicglitter along the cheekbones, and at Holly Fulton (shown), where silver foil arches nearly outshone the monochromatic clothes.

Upgrade Your Rainy-Day Headwear
At Christopher Kane (shown), a series of plastic sheets knotted under the chin, designed by Stephen Jones, provided a playful cover-up for rainy days. Mary Katrantzou and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi wrapped silk scarves babushka-style and crafted an impromptu black bow, respectively, for two more winning ways to battle inclement weather.

Take Hair Color Cues From Your Clothes
The week’s most whimsical proposal came through at Ashish, where fantastic candy-colored Afros were matched to each model’s look, from the shade of their dress on through to their nails and even the slight tint of their lips.
